Frontiers of Medicine 2016, Volume 10, Issue 3,   Pages 258-270 doi: 10.1007/s11684-016-0458-7

Abstract:

The N-end rule pathway is a unique branch of the ubiquitin-proteasome system in which the determinationof a protein’s half-life is dependent on its N-terminal residue. The N-terminal residue serves as the degradation signal of a protein and thus called N-degron.The molecular basis of the N-end rule pathway has been elucidated and its physiological functions haveThis review summarized the physiological functions of the N-end rule pathway, introduced the related

Entity and relation extraction with rule-guided dictionary as domain knowledge

Frontiers of Engineering Management   Pages 610-622 doi: 10.1007/s42524-022-0226-0

Abstract: Entity and relation extraction is an indispensable part of domain knowledge graph construction, which can serve relevant knowledge needs in a specific domain, such as providing support for product research, sales, risk control, and domain hotspot analysis. The existing entity and relation extraction methods that depend on pretrained models have shown promising performance on open datasets. However, the performance of these methods degrades when they face domain-specific datasets. Entity extraction models treat characters as basic semantic units while ignoring known character dependency in specific domains. Relation extraction is based on the hypothesis that the relations hidden in sentences are unified, thereby neglecting that relations may be diverse in different entity tuples. To address the problems above, this paper first introduced prior knowledge composed of domain dictionaries to enhance characters’ dependence. Second, domain rules were built to eliminate noise in entity relations and promote potential entity relation extraction. Finally, experiments were designed to verify the effectiveness of our proposed methods. Experimental results on two domains, including laser industry and unmanned ship, showed the superiority of our methods. The F1 value on laser industry entity, unmanned ship entity, laser industry relation, and unmanned ship relation datasets is improved by +1%, +6%, +2%, and +1%, respectively. In addition, the extraction accuracy of entity relation triplet reaches 83% and 76% on laser industry entity pair and unmanned ship entity pair datasets, respectively.

Clinical applications of neurolinguistics in neurosurgery

Peng Wang, Zehao Zhao, Linghao Bu, Nijiati Kudulaiti, Qiao Shan, Yuyao Zhou, N. U.

Frontiers of Medicine 2021, Volume 15, Issue 4,   Pages 562-574 doi: 10.1007/s11684-020-0771-z

Abstract: The protection of language function is one of the major challenges of brain surgery. Over the past century, neurosurgeons have attempted to seek the optimal strategy for the preoperative and intraoperative identification of language-related brain regions. Neurosurgeons have investigated the neural mechanism of language, developed neurolinguistics theory, and provided unique evidence to further understand the neural basis of language functions by using intraoperative cortical and subcortical electrical stimulation. With the emergence of modern neuroscience techniques and dramatic advances in language models over the last 25 years, novel language mapping methods have been applied in the neurosurgical practice to help neurosurgeons protect the brain and reduce morbidity. The rapid advancements in brain–computer interface have provided the perfect platform for the combination of neurosurgery and neurolinguistics. In this review, the history of neurolinguistics models, advancements in modern technology, role of neurosurgery in language mapping, and modern language mapping methods (including noninvasive neuroimaging techniques and invasive cortical electroencephalogram) are presented.

FERM domain-containing protein FRMD6 activates the mTOR signaling pathway and promotes lung cancer progression

Frontiers of Medicine 2023, Volume 17, Issue 4,   Pages 714-728 doi: 10.1007/s11684-022-0959-5

Abstract: expression of FRMD6 is associated with poor outcomes in patients with lung squamous cell carcinoma (n = 75, P = 0.0054) and lung adenocarcinoma (n = 94, P = 0.0330).FRMD6 interacts and colocalizes with mTOR and S6K, which are the key molecules of the mTOR signaling pathwayFurthermore, knocking out FRMD6 inhibits the activation of the mTOR signaling pathway in Frmd6our results show that FRMD6 contributes to lung cancer progression by activating the mTOR signaling pathway

Study on the NOx release rule along the boiler during pulverized coal combustion

JIN Jing, ZHANG Zhongxiao, LI Ruiyang

Frontiers in Energy 2007, Volume 1, Issue 1,   Pages 91-95 doi: 10.1007/s11708-007-0009-7

Abstract: Numerical simulation and experimental study on NO release along the boiler during pulverized coal combustion have been conducted. With the increase of temperature the NO emission increased and the peak value of NO release moved forward. But when the temperature increased to a certain degree, NO emission began to reduce. NO emission increased with the increase of nitrogen content of coal. The peak value of NO release moved backwards with the increase of coal rank. NO emission increased obviously with the increase of stoichiometric ratio. There existed a critical average diameter of the pulverized coal (). If "d, NO emission reduced with the decrease of pulverized coal size. If >, NO emission reduced with the increase of the pulverized coal size. The results showed that the simulation results are in agreement with the experimental results for concentration distribution of NO along the axis of the furnace.

Efficient decoding self-attention for end-to-end speech synthesis Research Article

Wei ZHAO, Li XU

Frontiers of Information Technology & Electronic Engineering 2022, Volume 23, Issue 7,   Pages 1127-1138 doi: 10.1631/FITEE.2100501

Abstract: has been innovatively applied to text-to-speech (TTS) because of its parallel structure and superior strength in modeling sequential data. However, when used in with an autoregressive decoding scheme, its inference speed becomes relatively low due to the quadratic complexity in sequence length. This problem becomes particularly severe on devices without graphics processing units (GPUs). To alleviate the dilemma, we propose an (EDSA) module as an alternative. Combined with a dynamic programming decoding procedure, TTS model inference can be effectively accelerated to have a linear computation complexity. We conduct studies on Mandarin and English datasets and find that our proposed model with EDSA can achieve 720% and 50% higher inference speed on the central processing unit (CPU) and GPU respectively, with almost the same performance. Thus, this method may make the deployment of such models easier when there are limited GPU resources. In addition, our model may perform better than the baseline Transformer TTS on out-of-domain utterances.
